Scentsational Mommy To Be

Hope you all were able to view our youtube video on how to do a Scentsational at home spa pedicure. If not check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89G_zjLpmPE&list=UULi5R4yHhc6U6Mvtus4Q1gQ&index=1&feature=plcp You will see I am very pregnant, and we mention doing this blog. My pregnancy is coming to its finale! Now 38 weeks pregnant. I do believe I have had a by the book pregnancy. At least every time I felt a certain way, the baby center app on my phone would send me a text of how I could be feeling, and sure enough I would have just expressed that. Like I would say "I'm so exhausted", and I get a text- You are exhausted this week, make sure to go to bed early.
So I thought I would share what helped me with some pregnancy 'woes'. Maybe you, or a pregnant friend or family, are experiencing the same things. Starting with the first few months, I could not handle certain smells, either gave me a headache or made me nauseous. Scentsational Soaps Almond Body Butter  was with me everywhere I went. When something or some one's scent bothered me I quick rubbed on my hands and even under my nose, so it was all I smelled. Ahh instant relief! Almond is just a comforting, non aggressive neutral scent, just perfect for every one's tastes. In fact, any one around me when I applied it would say "yum what's that?"  An added benefit is that body butter is great for dry skin, common to pregnancy.
Ok, so now more intimate. Hemroids, there I said it. But didn't have to cope with it, because Scentsational Soaps Honey Bee Naturals Propolis Healing Salve healed them. Done. Now moving on. Next unsightly bumps/pimples under my chest... boobs. So at this point your stomach has met up with your boobs and can get a bit warm, which can cause an irritation. What helps any irritation?  Propolis Healing Salve, if not gone the next day, then within a few.
Common fear- stretch marks, to help prevent them, make sure you moisturize daily any areas of weight gain, massage into skin liberally after shower/bath. I love the luxurious moisture rich benefits of Honey Bee Naturals Chocolate Honey Decadence Body Butter.
Chocolate and Honey have powerful antioxidant, antibacteria and anti-aging properties which nourish, and moisturize the skin. Chocolate softens and rejuvenates skin while protecting skins elastin and collagen from free radical damage, leaving your skin with a healthy glow.
Speaking of a glow. Having finished my Scentsational Soap bar of soap, I reached for my  Honey Bee Naturals Royal Jelly Lemon Drop Omega-3 & Hemp Shampoo while in the shower and used as a body wash. Well, I am laying with my baby bump out to watch him move, and my tummy was so very shiny, it was positively glowing. Yes, when the description says 'helps bring back natural shine to your hair', it does. Amazing!
While you and your hubby are watching your baby move, hand him your Scentsational Soap lotion and have him rub your feet. Good idea, right?
Hope this helped fellow mommy to be's, and have given perfect gift ideas for your family or friend that is pregnant.
Would you like even more great gift ideas for your favorite pregnant princess friend? Here are a couple of our other favorite 'mommy to be' creative handmade unique gifts. When Life Gives You Lemons, Be Thankful

Lemons: Just looking at them brightens your day!

Did you catch the Dr. Oz show, air date Tuesday November 6, 2012? Dr. Oz said that lemon balm extract is a "natural and instant stress relief". They recommended drop in water as needed to have relief from stressful situation, can take a few times a day. Definitely want to try that.
Why did our ears perk up when we heard that? Well who isn't looking for natural ways to relieve stress? Also though, because of our own personal experience with the lemon essential oil blend in our Royal Jelly Lemon Drop line.
My dear mother has Alzheimer's and can get very agitated at times, as many who suffer with the disease do. After showering her hair and body with the Royal Jelly Soap, Royal Jelly Lemon Drop Omega 3 & Hemp Shampoo, Royal Jelly Lemon Drop Botanical Conditioner and then moisturizing her skin with Royal Jelly Lemon Drop Body Lotion, Royal Jelly Face/Body Butter on face, decollete', pulse points on back of neck and we used it on her hands/wrists. We, my sister and I, noticed a huge improvement in her demeanor. She was calm and relaxed for the evening.
Royal Jelly Lemon Drop is also calming for dry, irritated, or sensitive skin. Yes calming for mind and body.
So our recommendations for stress relief and relaxation is the aromatherapy benefits, as well as soothing, smoothing, and moisturizing of our Royal Jelly Lemon Drop line. Just an added bonus is the shine from the Royal Jelly Lemon Drop Omega-3 & Hemp shampoo.
We always appreciate hearing about your experience, your stories, please keep them coming.

Royal Jelly Lemon Drop aids in:
* alertness
* contentment
* reduced levels of agitation
* essential oil blend chosen for the nervous system and immune system
* "sun downing"

Introducing: Lavender Honey Soap

                                  Lavender Honey Soap

Lavender Essential Oil:  Long been used for stress relief, insomnia, depression, headaches, migraines and overall well-being. It is soothing and moisturizing for body, as well as dry scalp and hair.

Honey: Moisturizes and soothes itchy dry skin. Incredible antioxidant, antiseptic, and cleansing properties.

The two together is a dream! The new addition to Scentsational Soaps Honey Bee Naturals line, Lavender Honey Soap. The minute Scentsational Soaps created this wonderful aroma soap I had to have one! We have all heard of lavender used in aroma therapy as a stress reliever, and stress really is the culprit behind almost all ailments these days, why we can't sleep, why we gain or loose weight, headaches, breakouts and the list goes on.
Lavender Honey soap has actual lavender buds on top, ground lavender buds throughout and oatmeal too, which makes for an enjoyable cleansing experience. While showering with my Lavender Honey soap I am surrounded by the pleasing aroma therapy, washing my cares away. Yet, it doesn't end there. I left for the evening, upon my returning home, I come into my house, and my entire home is the scent of delightful lavender fields. How is this possible from one bar of soap sitting on my soap saver in my shower? It's SCENTSATIONAL! Yes, only a Scentsational Soap can have that effect.
An absolute must have!

(A little secret…I use fat free cream cheese. I don’t think anyone can tell the difference, and that helps make this dip pretty low cal and packed with fiber and beta-carotene.)

Enjoy!

First Day of School

First Day of School
It's here again, the school year begins. For us here in Florida it started August 20th. How about where you live? Did you get the long list of supplies weeks before, or are you a last minute shopper? Wal-Mart was packed here the night before. Then the big morning is here! Do you have a child who went or is going to their very first day of school? PreK or Kindergarten?  If you have funny first day, or week, stories, we would love to hear them.
Well, my son started PreK this year. He has never been in day care and only family babysat him if I had to go somewhere without him, so this is new to him. Granted it is only three hours a day. I had to start slow, for my sake of course. He has been excited about going for months now. Aunt Sarah even took him school clothes shopping, and his aunts from NY sent him supplies.  So that added to the excitement. He would tell any random person everywhere we went, “I’m going to school”.  So the morning came, and while eating breakfast he, choking back the tears, whispered, “I don’t want to go”.  We, my husband and I, kept the excitement level up though, “Why not its going to be fun, you can color, and do puzzles, and meet new friends, and play outside, you’ll say to us ‘I don’t want to leave’ when we come pick you up”. It worked, he felt better. I definitely suggest keeping positive.  We get to the school, we took his picture, gave him hugs, he saw the kids there,  the teacher welcomed him into the class, and he walked right in and didn’t look back, no tears from him. I didn’t even cry which was a bit of a surprise, but I feel comfortable with the teacher and school, and know he loves to learn, that he will enjoy his few hours a day there. When we picked him up he was happy to see us and share his first day, which included that he didn’t like the snack. What was funny about his first week is probably only funny to us, because we know how picky he is about what he eats, while the other kids are loving the fun snacks, my kid is picking the chocolate out of a cookie because he likes vanilla, and didn’t eat the goldfish crackers, because they tasted like sausage (must have been pizza flavored).  He did have a great first week, he likes PreK.

                                                                        "  How cute "
Sarah's daughter & oldest son in their school years
I asked Sarah about her older two children and what she remembers of their first day of school.  She said her daughter, and first child, was Miss Independent, ready for mom to give her a kiss goodbye and leave so she could go play with the kids. So much for big emotional moment with her first! I think she was like that on her wedding day too. Then there was her second child’s first day, her older son, he was more timid and shy, didn’t want to go to school, but smart so wanted to learn.
I remember on my first day of Kindergarten I cried, I didn’t want to let go of my mom. When they left  I was seated at a table with other kids and coloring pages. I reached for a crayon and a boy grabbed it and said “that’s mine”, I cried again.  My husband was child number four and says he missed the bus on his first day of kindergarten and his parents sent him with the neighbors to school, he said he remembers crying in the back seat  of their car the whole way. Awww!
So somehow years and years later that milestone in our lives, that first day of independence, The First Day of School, stays with us, if not ours, definitely our child’s.
Hope all of you whose child is starting school this year have sensational memories! Treat yourself, especially if you’re a mom, or a teacher, to a Scentsational, relaxing, stress relief, bath.

Honey Honey

“Sugar, Oh Honey Honey”-  The Archie’s
“Honey, Honey How You Thrill Me”- ABBA
“Honey Get Me Hooked on You”- Mariah Carey

Are you singing about sweet honey, are you hooked, does it thrill you?
Maybe you just need a little more information about what you may only be using on your toast as of now.

Honey is composed primarily of natural sugars and water, as well as trace enzymes, minerals, vitamins, and amino acids.

Honey contains antioxidant properties. An antioxidant slows the rate of free-radical damage -- free radicals are unstable molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamin C, one antioxidant found in honey, is the key to collagen production which gives the skin firmness and strength. It is no wonder honey is popping up in many skin care products, soothing dryness and firming skin.  The fact that honey is a humectant, which means attracts and retains moisture, makes it a natural fit for moisturizing products like, creams, cleansers, shampoos, and conditioners. Even the most sensitive skin can use honey, as it is an ant- irritant.

Honey is not new to beautiful skin though. Have you ever heard of a certain beautiful ancient Egyptian queen, Cleopatra? History tells of her using mixture of fresh milk and honey in her bath. We learn, Madame du Barry, the mistress of Louis XV, used a facial mask from honey all her life. She must have never experienced acne, as honey is known to be anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. The Chinese empresses had a natural exfoliating treatment, they mixed ground orange seeds in honey to give their skin a white complexion and keep it spot free.

Honey has been used for years for medicinal purposes. It is a natural antiseptic and makes a good salve for burns and wounds. It is honey's high sugar content that makes it anti-bacterial, killing many kinds of bacteria, including some antibiotic-resistant germs. Remember honey is a humectant, forming a moist environment, which speeds healing of wounds and minimizes scarring. Studies done world over show that wounds treated with pure natural honey heal faster and better.  Honey calms coughs and soothes sore throats.

Our mom always used a tablespoon of honey, the juice of one lemon, mixed in a cup of hot water to soothe our sore throats, always made us feel all warm and better.

This is really just a dip into how wonderful a gift natural pure honey truly is.

Fun Stuff: Long Island Beach House Sea Salt Soap

Fun Stuff:
Have you experienced Scentsational Soaps Long Island Beach House Old Fashioned Soap? It is beautiful in appearance and in scent. Why the name, you may wonder?
Sarah and I, although very much Florida residents now, spent much of our childhood living on Long Island, New York. Have you ever visited? I was able to go back for a two week vacation. It all came flooding back, just how wonderful Long Island summers are. I can see why Sarah would create a soap to take her back to the rural North Fork, the part of the island we lived. The roads are lined with plush trees, and beautiful homes, with purple, white, or hot pink hydrangeas in the yards. All the farm stands are open with delicious fresh picked fruits, veggies, and delightful flowers. Long Island’s wine country is on the North Fork, the vineyards are a must to tour and enjoy samplings of their award-winning wines. The downtown local shops are fun to browse and buy your unique finds and gifts. Of course if you love a good sale, well there is outlet shopping too. There is even a water park, an aquarium, and a petting farm. A lot of history is on Long Island as well, famous people were born there, like Walt Whitman. Sarah and I went on many school field trips to historical spots, like the quaint Southold Indian Museum. Are you fascinated by light houses? Montauk Lighthouse at the end of the island is a must. Our favorite part of Long Island… the beaches, whether it’s the bay, the sound, or the ocean, that is where true relaxation is home, in our humble opinion anyway.  The fresh seaside air! Pack up your sunblock, water, beach chair, and your favorite book and chill. Before walking back up to the beach house, find that perfect shell or smooth stone to take home.

Yes, the fresh clean scent of Long Island Beach House Old Fashioned Soap will take you back to the resort or beach house, where you just loved everything and didn’t want to leave, and you kept the complimentary soap to remember your stay. You know you did! Keep this scentsational soap for yourself or buy for your guest bath, either way you definitely want to have this one today.

Scentsational Summer Soles

Are you showing off your new cute sandals, are your feet equally as neat?

My name is GiGi, and I am Sarah’s sister. I have been a cosmetologist for over 15 years, specializing in facials, manicures, and pedicures. I am now working on a couple of other projects while being a happy stay at home mom. Sarah asked me, in my professional opinion, which Scentsational products would make for the perfect pedicure.

Scentsational Summer Soles:

Step One: Ready your foot bath with warm to hot water. Take a scoop of- Scentsational Whipped Soap-and mix it around in the water, then another small scoop and rub on your legs and feet, then rinse. Already feeling silky smooth? I would highly recommend Scentsational Soaps Cardamom Vanilla, the aroma therapy will mentally take you to relaxing on the beach of an exotic island. Soak for 10 minutes.

Step Two: Apply- Propolis Healing Salve- to cuticles. Then file toe nails in one direction. Gently push back cuticles. Use a pumi bar and scrub rough heals.

Choose your favorite- Scentsational Sugar Scrub- using a gentle circular motion to apply to legs and feet, don’t forget around those toes. Then rinse in foot bath, remove from bath, and pat dry. You may feel they are so smooth you won’t need an additional moisturizer, but we don’t want to skip the massage.

Step Three: First, attention to your heals once again, apply –Propolis Healing Salve- to help heal any dry cracks. Now the luxurious Body Butter! Choose your favorite Scentsational scent, I love the reminiscent of Florida mixture of honey and orange in the Honey Natural line- Honey Orange Blossom Spice Body Butter-. Massage that onto our legs and feet.

Follow with a bright summer polish color, not to forget base and top coats for longer wear.

And that my friends is your recipe for a Scentsational home pedicure! Have your best friend over, you give her one and she yours, now that’s even better. Enjoy!

Top 5 Tips for Using and Storing Handmade Soaps

Jun
282011

Cardboard Shoe Box
Cardboard Shoe Box
Congratulations on your purchase or gift of handmade natural soap!
If not properly used and stored, your wonderful new soap could quickly dissolve in the shower or slowly deteriorate on the shelf. Here are our Top 5 Tips to enjoy your soap to the very last bubble:
1. Store soaps not in use in a covered container that allows air circulation, and in a cool, dry location. Shoe boxes work great for this. If you prefer to store your soaps in plastic, be sure to add ventilation to the container to allow the soaps to breathe. Handmade natural soaps are high in natural glycerin and vegetable oils; non-ventilated storage may result in a “weepy” or rancid soap bar. Keep your stored soaps out of direct sunlight, as natural ingredient colors may fade. Storage life varies, depending upon the formulation of the soap. In general, assuming proper storage, your handcrafted soap should last from 1 to 2 years.
HoneyBee Naturals Essential Oil Soaps

2. If storing several soaps, it’s best to store similar scents together. Sample categories include: lavender, citrus, mint, spice, tea tree, rosemary, eucalyptus, fruit and floral. The essential oils in handcrafted soaps vary in dominance and mellow over time at different rates. Storing a peppermint (dominant) scent with a citrus (mild) scent may result in the citrus scent taking on a peppermint aroma. Even under the best conditions, citrus scents tend to mellow more quickly than other scents.
3. Cut the soap bar in half and use half at a time, storing the unused portion as noted above. Create a “buffet” of half-bar soaps and enjoy a variety of scents during the week!
      Wooden Soap   Savers
4. Use a soap dish that offers drainage (e.g. slotted) so the soap can dry between uses. Slotted soap dishes come in many different sizes, shapes and materials. A Google search will offer options such as wooden, ceramic and plastic. Another option is a flexible plastic suction cup soap saver – they’re inexpensive and work well both in the shower and at the sink. Wooden soap dishes can be used in the shower, if there is a high shelf available out of direct contact with water – and if there is adequate ventilation to allow drying between uses. We do not recommend using a ceramic soap dish in the shower, as it may fall and break.
Sisal Soap Saver Bags

5. Use a soap saver pouch. Place your bar of soap in the pouch and pull the drawstring closed. Wet the soap and pouch and lather up. When done hang up the pouch, soap and all, to allow it and your soap to dry between uses. Soap saver pouches come in several different materials, such as cotton yarn, ramie and plastic mesh. In addition to lengthening the life of your soap, a soap saver pouch will add a gentle exfoliating scrub. Soap savers are great for using up soap slivers – gather slivers together in the pouch and use until gone.

With proper storage and in-use care, you’ll get the most of your handmade natural soap!

Skincare Benefits of Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil has a small molecular structure which allows it to be easily absorbed into your skin, giving it a soft, smooth texture. It is an ideal ointment for the relief of dry, rough and wrinkled skin. Eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis sufferers often see great improvements with coconut oil based soaps and coconut skincare products. Coconut oil has antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties, so it is perfect for protecting and enhancing the skin’s natural life. It has wonderful antioxidant properties that protect the skin from free radical damage, has the ability to nourish and heal your skin. I love using coconut oil in my handmade soap because of all of these reasons, plus coconut oil gives my soap a big fluffy lather, which is simply luxurious cleansing experience.

Here are some other great tips on how to use coconut oil for everyday skincare.
Age Spots
Applying coconut oil directly to the age spot to help it fade in color. Love It!
Body Scrub
Mix coconut oil and sugar together, then rub all over your body in a circular motion. Rinse off and your skin will be super soft. You can add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil, for a wonderful smell.
Bruises
Applied directly to the bruise, coconut oil enhances the healing process, plus reduce swelling and redness.
Bug Bites
When applied directly to a nasty bug bite, coconut oil can stop the itching and burning sensation as well as quicken the healing process. Safe for the little ones. ;o)
Cradle Cap
To deal with dry skin on your baby’s scalp? Coconut oil will not only nourish your baby’s skin, it also helps get rid of cradle cap. Just rub about a pea size of coconut oil onto their scalp daily. Wha-La!
Dandruff
Coconut oil soaks into the scalp moisturizing dry skin and relieves symptoms of dandruff. It also helps to control oil secretion from the scalp, another leading cause of dandruff. Simply rub a small amount into your scalp.
Diaper Rash
Coconut oil is very comforting on a rashy bum with no unwanted harsh chemicals.
Eye Cream
Apply under the eyes to reduce puffiness, bags and wrinkles. Use on the lids in the evening.
Hair Conditioner
If your locks are looking more like straw than silk, massage coconut oil into dry to help strengthen and add luster. Use as a leave-in hair conditioner by applying a pea size amount of coconut oil to your ends and then running your fingers through your hair. Beauticians who are familiar with coconut swear by it. I do this at least once a week, you will love the results as much as I do.
Natural Lip Balm
Just rub a little into your lips and it not only acts as a softening agent but it also has an SPF of about 4 for a tad bit of sun protection.
Makeup Remover
This is one of my favorites. Simply, dab a small amount of coconut oil on your eyes to remove eye makeup. You will be amazed at how well it works!
Pre-Shave Treatment
Coconut oil will prepare your skin for the possible damage caused by shaving.

Prevent Breakouts
If you have acne-prone skin or get the occasional breakout, coconut oil can help. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties, so it will help to prevent spots. If you have a breakout, use a bit of oil on it as a spot treatment.

Stretch Mark Cream

Coconut oil is great at nourishing damaged skin. It may not be the magic stretch mark cure but it will definitely help.
Wrinkle Prevention and Reducer
Rubbing coconut oil on wrinkles and sagging skin helps strengthen the connective tissues to bring back that youthful look!
I would love to hear from you, so if you have any coconut oil skincare tips or a comment please post it below.

Thank you, Sarah
